Swakul- Sali Samaj is weaving community which is too small amongst all the weavers in the country. It is needless to express that economically, educationally, socially; it is a backward community. Our children though intelligent, are unable to get higher education due to poverty.

Our elders interested in the betterment of the community, in their conferences though decided to give much importance to education alone; the result achieved seems to be very small. It was only limited to primary and high school education at the local level. From 1962 to 1977 in the three conferences held in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra; the unity of the samaj on all india level developed. In the matter of higher eduaction unaimous decision was taken in Pune conference in 1977, to form an All India Orgaization to help the students of the community studying in expensive courses, who are economically incapable.

Accordingly, an organization under the name Akhila Bharat Swakul Sali Vidya Vardhak Sangha was formed in 1981, the office at Bagalkot in Karnataka. Sangha is to collect the donations from the Wel-to-do members of the community and keep the sum as fixed deposit in bank, and the interest earned be utilized for granting this scholarship. Till 2005 the trust fund of Rs.400000/-.

The Office bearers of the sangha approached a philanthropic person namely Dr.Pundaleek Sarode of Banglore settled in U.S.A. for donations. He readily agreed to donate an amount of Rs.400000/- in terms of dollars, for which the prior permission of the government of india is required as per the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act 1976. Usually it requires a minimum period of 2 years to get the permission. Dr.Sarode voluntarily came forward to recoup the scholarship for this two years at Rs.124000/- and paid the same also.

The office bearers of the sangha streuously paid their efforts and succeeded in getting the permission from Govt. of India in Nov 2007. Dr. Sarode fulfiled his promise by paying the agreed sum of Rs.400000/- The total fund was of Rs.900000/- by December.

The funds of the sangha are less and the number of students applying for scholarship is increasing , the sangha finds it difficult to help the students with more scholarship.

Including the current year the sangha has helped 211 students as below

Medical-29, Engineering-128, Technological-8 and Post Graduate-46.

The total sum of scholarship granted to the above students is Rs.905000/-. The students who get the scholarship are to return the same when they become earning person. 68 students have repaid and the total sum is of Rs.230000/-

The office bearers hereby appeal to all the members General Body and the entire samaj brothers and sisters to liberally donate to this education sangha and see that the coming up young generation is inspired to develop the samaj to a great height.
